There are two probable reasons as to why that button is not working

Change your settings to automatically update Windows
Download and update all your Windows Updates, including optional ones.
The button will work normally and when you will click to check progress, it will open Windows Update and download Windows 10.

I am sorry this is not at all useful.

System requirement and everything are all right however I am facing the same problem.

Another thing if my system configuration is not upto the mark why microsoft is showing upgrading button.

I am using windows 8.1, this answer only buys time for you and wasting time for others....nothing else. I am very sorry to say even in the background its not downloading....

All of my system requirements appear to checkout, but I am having the same issue. It says windows 10 is installing in the background, but when I click on 'view download progress,' the window closes and shows me nothing.

This does not help whatsoever. My brother has the exact same laptop as me (both unaltered) and his windows 10 upgrade occurred a while ago. Why do I have this exact issue then? Any help would be very appreciated.

I had the same issue where it was telling me the download was in progress, but it didn't appear to be doing anything and when I clicked the button on the bottom left labeled 'view download progress', nothing happened.

What I did was right click the icon in the system tray and clicked go to windows update. From there a button showed up that was labeled 'get started'. It then started showing a progress bar for getting setup files, so hopefully that will complete and install for me and for the others having the issue.

so there are so many of us who cannot download the file, even thought it tells us its downloading in the background (mine has said that for 2 weeks). If the download is screwed up how bad in the actual operating system?

Guys I solved this problem by myself by using MediaCreationToolx64. You can download it from link, From oficial site of microsoft. If it will be helpfull let me know.

Ali Karimli I am also using the Media Creation Tool, but I am using the 32 bit. How long did it show checking for udates for yours before it completed?
