Most people use virtualbox... but it has 16 color quality display in windows 9x.So here is how to fix that!

2.Open VM
3.Load the ISO file
4.Open Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Adapter
5.Click Change > Specify the location of the driver (Advanced) > Specify the Location
6.Browse To (CD Letter):128MB > Next
7.Choose Upgrade the Driver > Then Click Next > Finish
8.It should prompt you to restart,if it doesn't restart by yourself
9.After Restarting the Graphics is better!

Already knew about this trick, thanks to another topic opened by someone a lot of time ago... Anyway, thanks for having re-posted it, in case somebody forgot it.

VBEMP is worse than VMware SVGA II driver, so what's the point?

VirtualBox doesn't provide native display drivers for 9x, so VBEMP or Scitech Display Doctor are the only ones available for 9x on VirtualBox unless someone comes up with a new generic display driver.

VMware requires Hardware visualization, something that my 'Prescott 2M' P4 doesn't have. VBox is the only alternative for me.

VMware Workstation 7.x runs without hardware virtualization iirc.

I have been preparing Windows 98 for use and one thing that bugs me is too low a screen resolution.

So, I was told to install SciTech Display Doctor and switched to their display driver. I also have the monitor recognized as CyberVision C112 and now I can set the resolution to whatever I want, as long as I am using the SciTech display driver.

However, I don't get an option for 1366 x 768, which is my native resolution. I can set the colors to 32-bit, which I did, but this doesn't do anything.

I have tried changing HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIGDisplaySettingsResolution to 1366,768, but I get an error when I restart:

There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardare.

Is there a way to force the resolution to 1366x768 on Windows 98?

Use VBEMP, it supports 1366x768. No 2D/3D acceleration whatsover, but as long as you don't run any games, you should be fine. Also use it in 16 bit colour mode, it's slightly faster.

You'll find VBEMP here:http://www.navozhdeniye.narod.ru/vbe9x.htm
